I’m five weeks into my training for the NYC Marathon. Training has been going fairly well too. I’ve been hitting most of my training runs successfully and I’m happy to report that I’m feeling stronger and faster than ever. Each week, as part of my training, I play around with nutrition, gear and my shoes. And it may come as a surprise to you that I’m already putting together my running playlist for the race.
Yep. I’m one of those ridiculous type-A runners who strategically place music at certain points of a race playlist when I know the course will be tough and the music will have an impact on my cadence. Maybe it’s the spin class junkie in me that thrives on the heavy beats of high energy music, or the fact that music has always had an influence on my mood. Granted, more times than not I find myself running without my music during big races, but just to play it safe, I’m preparing some audio stimulus in the unlikely event that I’ll need something other than the roar of the New York City streets to fuel my legs.
This month’s playlist is a reflection of some high energy new(isn) tunes that I’ve been sporatically listening to during my long runs. Each week I arrange my playlist specifically with the high BPS songs towards the end of my run. This way I’ll experience and absorb the influence the song has on my performance at a point when I’m already fatigued. It’s all very precise and super important (enter the sarcasm), even if, come race day, the majority of the music in my ear buds is overpowered by the rumble of the crowds.
So today’s playlist is going to be a little longer than what I normally share. Since I”m testing out some of these songs during my runs, there’s quite a bit for you to play around with. Hoping you find something new to fit your needs.
