It takes me a whole three days to rest up before I get the itch to begin training for the next race.
The Athleta Iron Girl Half Marathon is just four weeks away and I am ready to get back to work on some more speed drills. Marathon Season is ending soon and I’ve just got to get in one more race before it’s over. I have heard amazing things about this series. I gotta say, I’m really looking forward to getting my first taste of the Iron Girl experience.
Iron Girl’s Mission is to Empower Women Towards a Healthy Lifestyle. What woman wouldn’t want to be involved with an organization like that? I know that with a name like Iron Girl, it can sound a little intimidating. Not to worry, there is a place for every woman in this series. With a 5k and a half marathon, The Iron Girl provides women with the perfect platform for first timers and experienced athletes to reach their personal bests. Here is what the website states about the series.
“Iron Girl empowers women to discover their personal best, embrace strength and celebrate accomplishment in a supportive community of women that will cheer them on. The event is about women with all the touches and amenities developed with women in mind. Whether this is your first or 100th event, there is a place for you at Iron Girl.”
The course is one of the most beautiful. This is what Florida races are all about. The ocean breeze will taunt you as you make your way through this race course. It starts at Coachman Park and leads runners out to the beach then down to Sand Key and then loops back again to Coachman Park. It includes two bridges for a little extra challenge(both of which you’ll have to cross twice). This is definitely a race to take your body to the limit.
Now lets talk about perks. This race includes some of the best perks available. It includes a post-race Breakfast Café(Yum), shirts sized specifically for women, professional timing chip, personalized race bibs, new custom finisher medals specific to the event, Iron Girl jewelry age group awards, on-demand results station, post-race giveaways and much more.
It all kicks off on Sunday, April 14, 2013
